Development Office<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Studied International Relations but ambassadors come from very <strong>different backgrounds<\/strong>: theology, physics, etc<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Diplomatic service requires<strong> diverse skills <\/strong>from different fields: foreign affairs, climate policy, regulatory policy (at first you have <strong>no idea what you are doing<\/strong>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The UK relationship with Estonia from a perspective of <strong>conflict\/dispute\/cooperation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before you start anything in life, it is important to make sure <strong>your values are clear<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>At one point the values of an <strong>organisation <\/strong>may be in conflict with yours (not a place for you then)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Uk and Estonia <strong>have a long history of good relations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Military <\/strong>cooperation &amp;&nbsp; <strong>security defence<\/strong> relations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>British navy in the first independence of Estonia<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Military troops in Estonia today: the biggest overseas (changing every 6 months)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>NATO<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We`re not just about the army<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We`re here how Estonia \/ Baltics \/ Eastern Europe \/ NATO<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Big <strong>access <\/strong>in Estonia<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Huge <strong>interest <\/strong>from London (headquarters): 2 prime-minister <strong>visits<\/strong>; 2 ministers of defence and armed forces visits; visit of the head of the Labour Party etc (usually about 3 visits in 10 years)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It is <strong>easy to do business in Estonia<\/strong>: we are like-minded<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The lobby is not needed: it is likely Estonia is <strong>on the same side<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Integrated review<\/strong>: foreign policy review- what we want to do as a government in the next 5 years (mentions Baltics; in 2022 we have the closest relationship than ever)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We have <strong>tanks <\/strong>(most of the spending), <strong>tech, <\/strong>and <strong>trade<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>1. <strong>Tanks<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Estonia <strong>leads the way<\/strong>: \u201cDo not believe Russia\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Acting front<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Being called hysterical even by the Nordic Nabours<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe notion that the time of Stalin&#8217;s and Hitler&#8217;s is over is dangerous\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Do not diminish<\/strong> anybody&#8217;s strength or right to be where you are by their size: it is important to understand the context, history, and where they are coming from<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe skill of diplomacy and negotiation is a life skill\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The biggest military support to <strong>Ukraine<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Quick reaction to and welcoming of the Ukrainian refugees<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>2.<strong> Tech<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Estonia<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The largest number of unicorns per capita<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>E-residency; no digitised health&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There are a lot of lessons we can learn from each other<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Opportunities to cooperate in the cyberspace and data<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>3. <strong>Trade<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Climate and environment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>COP Glasgow 2021<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>UK initiative about ocean alliance: expertise offshore<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No competition, it&#8217;s about cooperation in this space<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is about being able to amplify your expertise\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Education<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>PISA studies: first in Europe<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Literacy rate of 100%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Estonia on a global stage<\/strong>: Estonian Size as One of Its Superpowers<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Little corruption: <strong>smaller systems<\/strong> are easier<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>No history of being a colonial power\/occupier<\/strong>;
